Well that didn't go quite as planned.
On the train now, thinking of what this mornings ride meant. The problem is, that I have two weekends to train and on the third I've my last trot out for the year. Well that's not the problem. Ok, well yes it is. But another bit is the state I'm in.
Just over two weeks ago I was up the Tourmalet and Hautacam. Last week I rode to work a couple of times and really pushed it. Last Sunday I did a hard effort on the sportive. So, like all the good books say, thou shalt recover and fill thine muscles will energy again please. This shall be called, Recovery.
So I thought a swift hree days of nowt would be enough. So today would be a decent 48 km and a goodish pace.
What actually happened was quite different. I was slow out of the house so it shortened to 32 km. That's two of my laps rather than three. But I bad nothing there. The bike felt light. My legs seemed good, but not brilliant. My breathing was poor though, and my power low and heart rate low too. I did get the HR up and power up a few times on some of the small hills. Maybe up to 350 watts perhaps, which isn't that special for me. But seemed to be today. It ended up being a weedy 16 km in the end. That's one lap instead of two instead of three.
Was it the breathing?
Was it the diet over the last fee days?
Was it that the legs just said, no more thanks?
Maybe all three. Maybe there's something else too that I don't know about. I have cut down a bit on my food, trying to lose half a kilo or so, but that is probably silly. So plenty of nosh today for me.
Oh, and maybe lack of sleep. Though I don't feel too tired right now. If I was shown a bed I'd be out like a light.
Plans. Where does this leave 'em?
Well

Last weekend
I think I'm a bit obsessed as well as dull. What am I going to write about. Who am I going to write about.
Easy. Bikes and me. Not good.
Yes, so I took my son P to Herne Hill velodrome for the induction lesson. It was our first time on fixed wheel bikes so that was novel - and good. I'd like to go again. Once you've done the induction hour (£6 includes hire of bike and hat) you can go to any session.
After that it was rush home to the hairdresser. Much needed I think though I do sort of fit the un-cared, lazy appearance. It seems to fit. Anyway new and smart we are now.
Sunday was the Kent sportive, or something like that. It kicks of from Sevenoaks prep school and trundles through 80 miles of Kent. Twas a nice day with a westerly wind and a puncture. Early on I visited the brambles and stinging nettles as made a balls-up of a sharp down hill bend. No harm done. I felt a bit of a twerp though.
I'd have made it home in sixth position but for the puncture and my inability to fix it in anything like a reasonable time. Instead I came 23rd. Out of 66. So not too poor. I learnt a lot so the placement wasn't that disappointing. 4:34 was silver. 5 mins away from gold.
The next ride will be the VO2 sportive in two weeks time. Shorter and flatter I think so I should try to go out with a bit of a fizzz. If not a bang.
